The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic sales report for the seven-day period ending on Sunday, March 20, 2022. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. In this week’s report, the Mint reported sales of 36,473 numismatic products. This is down from the over 63,000 reported sales last week. In looking at the top ten in sales, all but one were 2022 releases and half were related to the Mint’s latest product release, the gold proof American Eagle.
The top five selling products for the Mint last week were various releases of the gold proof American Eagle. The top seller was the four-coin set which topped sales at 8,703 sets. It was followed closely by the 1/10th-ounce fractional Eagle with 7,930 coins sold. The third top seller was the 1-ounce coin with 5,119 coins reported sold followed by the 1/25th-ounce (4,379) and 1/2-ounce (1982). While these sales total did not hit the total production limit of each product, the Mint has listed all of them currently as unavailable. It is likely that the Mint is doing reconciliation work internally to verify if all of them were sold and it is possible that additional sales at the beginning of this week – which is not in this report – have consumed all available products.
The 2020 National Purple Heart Hall of Honor commemoratives continue to show strong sales. The proof silver dollar added another 1,187 coins to its sales tally, which now sits at 26,895 since its release, and was the sixth best seller for the Mint last week. The proof half dollar was seventh while the uncirculated silver dollar was ninth and uncirculated half dollar was tenth. Splitting these in eighth was the 2021 Proof Set, the only non-2022 product in the top ten sales list.
