First Look! Millard Fillmore Presidential Silver Medal

The United States Mint has released the images of the upcoming Presidential Silver Medal honoring Millard Fillmore. The medal will be the thirteenth offered in the series and will be available starting August 15th. The medal will be priced at $65.00 and will be available exclusively from the United States Mint.

Millard Fillmore was the 13th president of the United States, serving from 1850 to 1853, the last to be a member of the Whig Party while in the White House. A former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Upstate New York, Fillmore was elected as the 12th vice president in 1848, and succeeded to the presidency in July 1850 upon the death of U.S. President Zachary Taylor.

As is the case with all of the Presidential Medals, the Obverse will feature a portrait of President Fillmore.

The Reverse of the medal however will be unique and only the second in the series to divert from the “Peace & Friendship” design. For the Fillmore medal, it will depicts a farmer, leaning upon a plow, and conversing with an Indian Chief, an American flag in the background, and above it is inscribed “LABOR,” “VIRTUE,” and “HONOR.”
