The United States Mint will open sales of the 2022-S American Eagle silver proof coin later today. Sales will being at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific on the Mint’s site. This year, the one-ounce proof coin is priced at $73.00 and, as is usually the case, there is no mintage limit on the coin nor is there a household limit. However, it is expected there will be a very limited number available for purchase today.
The Mint announced earlier that all of the Enrollment Programs for the American Eagle were now sold out, meaning that a large percentage of coins available on release day have already been set aside for those in the 2022-S American Eagle enrollment program. Further, the Mint is no longer accepting enrollments for this or any of the other American Eagle programs for the rest of this year. The net result of this is that it is likely very few of the coins will be available today and it could take weeks before the Mint is able to get inventory available once more.
For those who are enrolled in the Enrollment Program for this American Eagle, you can go on the Mint’s website and verify that your order is being processed. You can find it under your Orders information.
As for the coin itself, it will feature the Walking Liberty design of Adolph A. Weinman on the Obverse with the Type-2 Reverse introduced last year featuring an eagle as it approaches a landing, carrying an oak branch, as if to add it to a nest.
