James Buchanan Presidential Silver Medal Sales Begin February 13

The United States Mint will begin sales of the next Presidential Silver Medal honoring James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States of America, on Monday, February 13, 2023. The 99.9% silver medal will be available directly from the United States Mint. The James Buchanan medal will be priced at $65.00, the same price as the Presidential Silver Medal series in 2022.

James Buchanan Jr. (April 23, 1791 – June 1, 1868) was an American lawyer, diplomat, and politician who served as the 15th president of the United States from 1857 to 1861. He previously served as secretary of state from 1845 to 1849 and represented Pennsylvania in both houses of the U.S. Congress. He was an advocate for states’ rights, particularly regarding slavery, and minimized the role of the federal government preceding the Civil War. Buchanan was the last president born in the 18th century.

As has been the case with all of the medals in the series, the Buchanan medal will feature a right-facing profile image of the President on the Obverse.

As has been the case in previous years, there is no production limit or household purchase limit on the Buchanan Presidential Silver Medal. All of the medals will likely remain available for several years. In 2023, the Mint is scheduled to release four medals in the series that will honor James Buchanan, Abraham Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, and Ulysses S. Grant.
