The United States Mint has released high-resolution images of the upcoming 2023 Morgan Dollar and 2023 Peace Dollar. Both coins, staying true to their original designs from over 100 years ago, will be available in uncirculated proof and a two-coin proof set from the Mint this year. The uncirculated 2023 Morgan Dollar and 2023 Peace Dollar versions will be available on July 13, 2023. The proof release dates have not been announced.
It is highly recommended that readers use Mint’s subscription program for these coins if they are interested in purchasing them.
The Morgan Dollar was designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan (1845-1925) and was minted from 1878 to 1904, and again in 1921. Both the Obverse and Reverse carry the original designs, albeit improved for modern coin striking.

In December 1921, the new Peace Dollar was approved by Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, replacing the Morgan Dollar and marking peace between the U.S. and Germany. More than 1 million of the coins had been struck by the end of the year. The new silver dollar was designed by renowned Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887 – 1964) and minted until 1935.

As you can see from the images above, the Mint’s high-resolution images of the 2023 coins are of the proof finishes.
