The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for June 2023, showing that 1.29 billion coins were produced for circulation across the nation’s Mint facilities. Total mintage of the Lincoln Cent, Jefferson Nickel, Roosevelt Dime, Washington Quarter, and Kennedy Half Dollar were down month-over-month compared to the May production report.
In June 2023, the Mint minted a total of 493,600,000 Lincoln Cents. Breaking down that total, it shows that 240.8 million were minted in Denver, with the remaining 252.8 million pressed in Philadelphia. This is down from the production of 528 million the Mint produced last month. For the year, the Mint has made 2.815 billion Cents for circulation.
For the Jefferson Nickel, the Mint reported that 157.68 million Five-Cent pieces were produced in June. Of that total, 77.04 million were minted in Denver, with the remaining 80.64 million in Philadelphia. The total production, like the Lincoln Cent, was down month-over-month from May, when 169.68 million Nickels were minted. For 2023, the Mint has now produced 918 million Jefferson Nickels.
Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, the Mint reported that 349.5 million Dimes were minted in June 2023. According to the Mint’s report, the breakdown was that 171 million were minted in Denver and 178.5 million in Philadelphia. Continuing the trend, the Dime’s production was down when compared to May by some 30 million pieces. For the year, the Mint has produced 1.991 billion Dimes for circulation.
The final coin with reported production in June was the Washington Quarter. The Mint reports that 296.4 million Quarters were produced in the month but does not provide a breakdown of which designs were produced. As readers know, four different Reverse designs are in circulation this year, thanks to the American Women Quarter series. A fifth will enter circulation later this year. Of the total produced Quarters last month, 144.4 million were minted in Denver and 152 million in Philadelphia. Total production for 2023 of the Washington Quarter is now at 1.670 billion pieces.
Considering the June production totals, the United States Mint has now minted 7,407,840,000 coins for circulation this year. This is nearly equal to the 7,638,340,000 coins the Mint had made through June 2022, and puts the Mint on pace to produce around 14 billion coins in 2023.
