The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for August 2023. The report shows that the United States Mint produced 1.03 billion coins in August. This is a slight drop from the 1.139 billion it produced in July. Indeed, all circulating coinage produced by the Mint saw a drop in month-over-month production other than the Kennedy Half Dollar.
In August 2023, the Mint produced 432 million Lincoln Cents. This is down from the 457.6 million it produced in July. Of the coins produced last month, 156 million were minted in Denver, with the remaining 276 million produced in Philadelphia. For the year, the United States Mint has produced 3.705 billion Cents for circulation.
The Jefferson Nickel saw a total production of 133.68 million in August, down from the 146.88 million in July. The production total split was 50.16 million in Denver and 83.52 million in Philadelphia. For 2023, the Mint has produced 1.198 billion Nickels
Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, it, too, saw a drop in production. In August, the Mint minted 252.5 million Dimes. Of that, 78 million were pressed in Denver and the remaining 174.5 million in Philadelphia. The production total drops from the 277 million minted in July across both facilities.
In August 2023, the Mint produced 207.4 million Washington Quarters – 78 million in Denver, and 129.4 million in Philadelphia. The production total dropped from 254.6 million in July. The Mint’s report does not break down the type of Quarters it produced. As readers know, five different Reverse designs are circulating this year, thanks to the American Women Quarter series.
Finally, the Kennedy Half Dollar was the only circulating coin produced by the Mint that saw a month-over-month production increase. 4.8 million Half Dollars were minted last month, all in Philadelphia. There were no Native American Dollars or Presidential Dollars minted in August.
The 2023, the Mint has produced 9,577,520,000 coins for circulation. This is slightly behind the 9.75 billion in had minted through August 2022.
