At the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) meeting yesterday, the design images of the 2024-2025 American Liberty gold coin and silver medal were released. The design, which will be struck in high relief, is modeled after the Flowing Hair Liberty Dollar. That coin, one of the earliest coins in United States history, was minted from 1794-1795.
The Flowing Hair dollar was the first dollar coin the United States federal government issued. The coin was minted in 1794 and 1795; its size and weight were based on the Spanish dollar, which was popular in trade throughout the Americas. It was designed by engraver Robert Scot in 1794. You can read more on the history of the Flowing Hair Dollar here.
The obverse and reverse of the 2024-2025 American Liberty coin and medal will feature the Flowing Hair design, stunningly similar to the original release.
The American Liberty gold coin was introduced in 2015 and has traditionally been released every two years (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023). However, based on the information from the Mint, the Flowing Hair design will be used for the next two years.
