ANA Money Museum Celebrates National Coin Week with Free Admission and Family Activities

The following is a Press Release from the American Numismatic Association (ANA) announcing that the ANA Money Museum, located in Colorado Springs, Colorado, will offer free admission during National Coin Week.

Every coin, every piece of paper money in your pocket, wallet, or purse has a story to tell about history, according to the American Numismatic Association (ANA) (money.org). These stories will be celebrated during the 100th anniversary for National Coin Week (NationalCoinWeek.org), April 21-27, 2024. The theme of this year’s National Coin Week is “A Hobby for a Changing World – 100 Years and Counting.”

The ANA Money Museum (money.org/money-museum) in Colorado Springs will celebrate National Coin Week with a range of activities, including an open house with special events on Saturday, April 27 from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with free admission.

“Designs on U.S. coins and paper money commemorate notable people, events, accomplishments, and shared principles,” explained Kim Kiick, executive director of the ANA. “This year’s theme focuses on how coinage and money have evolved and changed to embrace varying cultural values over time.”

Located at 818 N. Cascade Avenue next door to the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center at Colorado College, the Money Museum open house event on Saturday, April 27 will feature activities that include:

  • Mini-Mint demonstrations throughout the day. Guests can receive a freshly-minted National Coin Week medalette.
  • A station for kids to design their own currency.
  • Museum trivia for a chance to win prizes.
  • The “Plinko” prize drop, coin toss, and corn hole where every visitor can win prizes.
  • A drawing for a chance to win 30 seconds in the Cash Tornado – the winner gets to keep all the cash they can grab.
  • Numismatic door prizes starting at noon, drawn every hour.

“Money is history you can hold in your hands. Each coin and banknote ever produced has a story to tell, from the first ancient coins struck 2,600 years ago to coins and currency made today around the world,” said ANA Education Director Christian Strayhorn.

Over the centuries, the designs, denominations and metallic content of coins can reveal a great deal about civilizations, past and present, such as famous and not-so-famous political and historical figures, important events, and landmarks.
