The United States Mint will open sales for the 2024 Morgan and 2024 Peace uncirculated dollars later today. The two coins, both minted in Philadelphia, will be available directly from the Mint at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific. Both coins will be priced at $91.00 each and are the first silver coins to be released with the increased prices from the Mint.
The uncirculated 2024 Morgan Dollar will have a production limit of 275,000, with a household purchase limit of 25 coins. Those same production and household limits are also in pace for the 2024 Peace Dollar.
The Morgan Dollar was designed by Mint Chief Engraver George T. Morgan (1845-1925) and minted from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921. This iconic silver dollar represented the country’s westward expansion and industrial development in the late 19th century. The new Morgan Dollar was created using modern technology and historical assets from the U.S. Mint, and it has a beautiful, uncirculated finish.
In December 1921, Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon approved the Peace Dollar design, replacing the Morgan Dollar and marking peace between the U.S. and Germany. Designed by renowned Italian-American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887- 1964), the Peace Dollar symbolized the country’s coming of age as an international power while recognizing the sacrifices made by its citizens in World War I and celebrating victory and peace. Reintroduced in 2021, the Peace Dollar has a beautiful, uncirculated finish. The obverse (heads side) features Liberty in profile, a radiant crown on her head. Obverse inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance. The reverse (tails) depicts an eagle at rest holding an olive branch above the inscription “PEACE.” Additional inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”
Since the Morgan and Peace Dollars re-released in 2021, demand for these popular coins has remained high. Sales of all of the products made available this year by the United States Mint are expected to sell out quickly. Another fine example of the government taking more money from us, if they did their job they would have forecasted how much Silver they needed in advance – it’s just a profit grab!
