Legendary Lincoln Cent expert Dr. Sol Taylor has passed at the age of 87. Dr. Taylor was a prolific writer and educator about Lincoln Cents and was widely regarded as the expert on the type for decades.
Dr. Taylor passed away after a brief bout of lymphoma in April.
Dr. Taylor Society of Lincoln Cent Collectors and served as President from 1982-2009. He was a 50 year member of the American Numismatic Association, and was a member of the Numismatic Association of Southern California and Whittier Coin Club. He also had his own site where dozens of articles about specific Lincoln Cents and coin collecting were published over the past two decades. Many in the Numismatic community considered him the best resource when it came to the history of Lincoln Cents.
Dr. Taylor was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1931 and began collecting at the age of six in 1937. After attending high school and Brooklyn College, he serviced in the U.S. Coast Guard before returning to teach high school from 1953 to 1955. Dr. Taylor completed his doctorate in 1971 from USC and he served as a professor at Chapman College in Orange Country from 1972-1982.
Sol Taylor is survived by his wife Pearl, four children and nine grandchildren.
