The American Numismatic Association has begun sales of what would have been the 2020 World’s Fair of Money convention medal and collectables. As readers know, the convention itself was suspended then later cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The convention was scheduled to take place August 4-7 in Pittsburgh.
Each year, the ANA produces a series of convention medals and other collectables that attendees at the World’s Fair of Money can purchase to remember the event. With no event this year, the ANA has put the products online and available for everyone to purchase.
The medal depicts the bust of Pittsburgh area born environmentalist and biologist Rachel Carson. Rachel Carson was born in 1907 and was raised by her parents in a four-room house on sixty-five acres in Springdale, Pennsylvania along the Allegheny River. Her lifelong passion for the state of our natural world brought to the forefront man’s unintentional damage to the environment.

While the impact of COVID-19 has largely been negative for the globe and the numismatic world, if there is a positive, it is that the general collecting public can buy these medals and collectables without having to attend the show.
