The United States Mint will open up sales for the 2020-W American Eagle Palladium 1-ounce coin starting today. Sales will begin at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific directly on the Mint’s site. The uncirculated coin has a mintage limit of just 10,000 and there is a household limit of one. The selling price is $3000.
This year’s coin is the fourth in the annual series. It started in 2017 with an uncirculated version of the coin, like we will see in 2020. It was followed in 2018 with the Proof version and in 2019 with a Reverse Proof version. Currently the United States Mint only plans to release the Uncirculated version for this year.
The Obverse of the coin features the Winged Liberty Head (or Mercury) Dime design of Adolph A. Weinman, albeit in high-relief. The Reverse features a high-relief version of the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal. It was also designed by Weinman. Those two designs have been some of the most popular in the history of the United States Mint which has added to the popularity of this bullion coin.
When purchased, it will come in a gray leatherette presentation case with satin lining. It is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
For those that may recall, last year’s sale of this particular bullion coin started off challenge. The Mint erroneously sent an email a few days early indicating the coin was for sale when it was not. When sales finally did being on September 16, 2019, they were slow and, in fact, the Mint later lifted the limit of one coin per household just a day later.
Despite its high price, this year’s Palladium Eagle is expected to sell strong. While a sell out is a bit of a stretch in its first day, don’t expect this investment coin to stick around for long.
