On December 10, 2020 the United States Mint will open sales on the exclusive 2020 Limited Edition Silver Proof Set. Sales will begin at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific on December 10th and only 50,000 sets will be available. A limit of two per household is in effect. This year, the set is priced at $201.00.
The eight-coin set contains 99.9% silver versions of the following coins:
- 2020-S American Eagle
- 2020-S Roosevelt Dime
- 2020-S Washington Quarter (American Samoa)
- 2020-S Washington Quarter (Weir Farm)
- 2020-S Washington Quarter (Salt River Pay)
- 2020-S Washington Quarter (Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller)
- 2020-S Washington Quarter (Tallgrass Prairie)
- 2020-S Kennedy Half Dollar
In all, there are 2.75 ounces of silver in the set which will come in an exclusive display box along with a Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
This year, the set is over $60 more expensive than the 2019 edition thanks to the significant increase in the price of silver in 2020. The household limit of two sets is also new-for-2020 as the set last year had no limits. The United States Mint has been fairly open about the demands it has had this year in keeping up with demand thanks to limited production and stoppages due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Those impacts will likely continue to be felt throughout the first half of 2021.
With the limited number, demand will be high. Hopefully the Mint has sorted out its site issues that cause frustration last month with crashes while attempting to buy equally as limited products.
