The United States Mint is set to release a special two-coin American Eagle set starting next week. The set will feature two 2021-W American Eagle gold one-tenth ounce coins, one with the original Type-1 design and the other with the new Type-2 design. Both coins will be struck in a Proof finish and will come in its own unique presentation case.
At the time of this post, the United States Mint has not listed the price of this two-coin one-tenth ounce gold set. Based on the release price of the Type-2 designs today, it should be around the $700 mark. You can get more details on the set on the product page at the United States Mint’s website.
The 2021 American Eagle One Tenth Ounce Gold Two-Coin Set Designer Edition contains one original and one newly re-designed American Eagle One-Tenth Ounce Gold Proof Coin, a unique set for the serious collector.
The 2021 obverse original design features a version of Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full-length figure of Liberty with flowing hair, holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left.
The 2021 reverse original design features a male eagle carrying an olive branch flying above a nest containing a female eagle and eaglets by Sculptor Miley Busiek Frost and executed by United States Mint Sculptor-Engraver Sherl J. Winter.
The 2021 obverse design on the new coin features the same Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ full- length figure of Liberty with flowing hair. For the 2021 coin, the United States Mint returned to its original historical assets in 2020 to render a closer reflection of Saint-Gaudens’ original vision and detail.
The 2021 new reverse design features a magnificent portrayal of an eagle by Artistic Infusion Program Designer Jennie Norris and sculpted by Medallic Artist Renata Gordon.
Each one-tenth ounce gold proof coin is struck in 22-karat gold and exquisitely crafted.
Each coin is encapsulated and packaged in a single black presentation case. The outer sleeve showcases both reverse designs, and the individually numbered Certificates of Authenticity include elegant imagery of the obverse and reverse designs.
