The United States Mint will open sales of the striking 2021-W American Liberty High Relief gold proof coin next week. Sales of the very limited release coin will begin at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific on August 19th. Only 12,500 of the coins will be available and there is a household limit of one coin.
At the time of this post, the Mint has not released the official price for this year’s American Liberty but expect a price upwards of $3000.
The 24-karat one ounce gold coin is a significant departure in design from the previous coins in the series, aimed at highlighting modern interpretations of the concept of American Liberty.
The Obverse features a wild American Mustang horse, bucking off a western-style saddle, evoking the throwing off of the yoke of British rule during the American Revolution. The Reverse features a stunning close up view of an Eagle.
When compared to previous coins in the American Liberty program, the 2021 coin is a significant shift in the interpretation of “American Liberty”.
This coin is considered one of the truly special and limited coins produced by the Mint each year. While a sell out on August 19th is certainly possible, it will likely take a week or two for all of them to be sold.
You can get more details on the coin on its product page on the Mint’s site.
