The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report to Sunday, September 5, 2021. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. This week’s report shows that the Mint sold 880,000 products to Authorized Purchasers last week, up slight week-over-week from last week.
Unsurprisingly, the silver American Eagle was the top bullion seller for the Mint last week. 750,000 of the one-ounce silver coins were sold in the week ending September 5th, pushing its total sales for 2021 to 22,940,500. The current sales pace of the silver American Eagle puts it on target for between 34-36 million coins sold this year, easily surpassing the 30 million sold last year.
The gold counterpart to the silver American Eagle, the gold one-ounce bullion coin, saw solid sales last week. 11,500 of the coins were sold in the week, putting its sales total at 746,000. For perspective, the Mint sold 747,500 of the gold one ounce Eagles in all of 2020. That total will likely be surpassed in next week’s report. Meanwhile the 1/25th ounce gold American Eagle also had strong sales as did the 1/10th ounce Eagle. For the quarter-ounce, 28,000 coins were sold in the last week while the tenth-ounce Eagle had 86,000 coins in sales.
According to the Mint’s report, there were not half-ounce gold American Eagles sold last week nor any one-ounce platinum Eagles.
Rounding out the bullion sales report is the American Buffalo. The bullion version of the one-ounce gold Buffalo sold 4,500 coins last week which puts its total sales at 235,500 for 2021. Like the one-ounce gold Eagle, the Buffalo coin is also within shouting distance of its 2020 sales total. Last year, a total of 242,000 coins were sold to Authorized Purchasers. At its current sales pace, this year’s bullion Buffalo should surpass that total this month.
Here is a breakdown of the bullion sales for the week.
