The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending September 19, 2021. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. The report shows that the Mint sold 141,057 numismatic products last week. This is up slightly from last week’s report.
By far the top selling product for the Mint was its latest release, the 2021 American Eagle Silver Reverse Proof Two-Coin Set Designer Edition. The Mint reported that 124,251 of the 125,000 sets available were sold. This number is likely low as the Mint continues to reconcile sales for the set. Some collectors have reported that the Mint has emailed them to let them know that they will not be getting the set. This would seem to indicate that they oversold the sets when their site was struggling to keep up during the sale. Regardless, it was the top selling product for the Mint last week by a significant percentage.
The second top seller was also a new release last week, the Coins and Chronicles Set for President George H.W. Bush. The set recorded 7,103 sets sold in its first week of availability according to the Mint. Meanwhile, the third top seller was the 2021 Proof Set. The annual set had another 3,003 sets sold last week, putting its sales total at just shy of 350,000 (348,008) for 2021. It is increasingly looking like the standard and Silver Proof Set for 2021 will outsell their 2020 counterparts. Last year, there were 465,081 Proof Sets sold and 313,246 Silver Proof Sets. As you can see in the chart below, the Silver Proof Set, which was the fourth top seller for the Mint last week, now has a sales total of 228,415 for the year.
Rounding out the top five selling products for the Mint was the popular 2021 Christa McAuliffe Proof Silver Dollar. Another 720 of the silver dollars were sold last week, putting its sales total at 45,674. That makes it easily the top selling commemorative coin for the Mint this year.
