The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report to Sunday, December 12, 2021. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. This week’s report shows that the Mint sold a solid just 33,500 bullion coins in the last week. As reported previously, the Mint has now stopped production of 2021 American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins and is focusing on 2022. Final orders for this year have been placed by Authorized Purchasers with early orders for 2022 coins also being placed. This week’s report shows that only two American Eagle bullion coins registered sales along with the American Buffalo.
The top selling bullion coins last week was the one ounce American Eagle gold bullion coin. The Mint reported 24,500 of the coins were sold in the past week to Authorized Purchasers. That puts its sales total for the year at 1.092 million coins, far exceeding the 747,500 coins sold in 2020. The other American Eagle gold coin that registered sales this week was the 1/25th ounce. The fractional gold bullion coin had a reported 2,000 coins sold in the past week. That pushes its total sales for the year to 162,000 which is well above the 2020 reported sales of 106,000.
For 2021, all of the American Eagle coins except the one ounce silver coin have now outperformed their 2020 counterparts. This is the best evidence of the bullion demand from investors and collectors for coins from the United States Mint.
Turning to the one ounce American Buffalo gold bullion coin, it saw sales of 7,000 coins according to the Mint’s report. That puts its total sales for the year at 348,000, crushing last year’s 242,000 in sales.
