The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report for American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins. This summary report provides sales details through Sunday, February 6, 2022. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. During the previous week, the Mint reported sales of 539,000 bullion coins, with all products except the one-half ounce gold American Eagle and one-ounce American Eagle Platinum coin registering sales to Authorized Purchasers. This is roughly half the total sales from the previous report from January 30th.
While this week’s bullion sales report is through the first few days of February, all reported sales were in January.
The top selling bullion product was the silver one-ounce American Eagle. The Mint reported sales of 500,000 coins, pushing total sales for the year to 5.001 million. With all of these sales happening in January, it is confirmed that last month was the highest sales total in January ever reported. In January 2021, the previous high water mark, the Mint reported 4.775 million silver American Eagles sold.
The gold one-ounce American Eagle had reported sales last week of 13,500 coins. That puts its total sales for the year at 123,500 according to the Mints Report. Further, the 1/25th-ounce gold Eagle had 2,000 coins sold last week while the smallest fraction, the 1/10th-ounce gold Eagle, had 15,000 coins sold in the previous week.
As mentioned, there were no sales of the 1/2-ounce gold American Eagle or one-ounce platinum American Eagle according to the Mint’s report.
Turning to the one-ounce American Buffalo gold coin, the Mint report selling 8,500 of the coins to Authorized Purchasers last week. That puts its sales total for January at 61,500. This is the same number of Buffalos that were reported sold by the Mint last year in January.
