NGC Special Designations and Labels for the 2022-W Proof Platinum American Eagle

The following is a Press Release from Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) announcing that it will be offering special designations and labels for the upcoming 2022-W Proof Platinum American Eagle. The one-ounce platinum Eagle will be available starting March 3rd from the United States Mint and only 15,000 will be produced.

On March 3, 2022, the US Mint is releasing the  2022-W Proof Platinum American Eagle, the second in the coin’s latest series: the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which will run through 2025. This year’s coin coincides with the 25th anniversary of the American Platinum Eagle. Struck at the West Point Mint, it has a mintage of only 15,000.

To celebrate this anniversary, Numismatic Guaranty Company™ (NGC®) is offering a special Platinum Eagle 25th Anniversary label to complement coins for no additional fee. In addition to the anniversary label, the popular NGC Early Releases and First Releases designations and labels are available for the coins if they are received by NGC within the first 30 days of release. In 1997, the first Proof Platinum Eagle was issued after being authorized by Congress the previous year. Every year, a Proof Platinum Eagle has been released with different detailed images capturing the essence of the United States. The previous series include Vista of Liberty, Foundations of Democracy, Torches of Liberty and Preamble to the Declaration of Independence. Last year, the Mint’s newest series debuted with the Freedom of Religion coin’s release.

This year’s Freedom of Speech design features seedlings sprouting from an oak branch, representing how speech is strengthened by the amendment’s stability. Each coin in the First Amendment to the United States Constitution series is designed by Donna Weaver and depicts different aspects of an oak tree, a representation of the strength and growth of the nation. Donna Weaver is a prolific coin designer who signs certification labels exclusively for NGC.

The Proof Platinum Eagles series continues for the next three years with coins featuring other freedoms from the US Constitution.
