The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic sales report for the seven-day period ending on Sunday, March 6, 2022. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. In this week’s report, the Mint reported sales of 22,189 numismatic products. That is far less than the sales reported in last week’s sales report but equally, the Mint only released one product this week. Last week was the first week of reporting for the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor commemorative products.
This week, the top selling product was the only new release by the Mint in the past week: The 2022-W American Eagle Platinum Proof First Amendment – Freedom of Speech coin. 6,668 of the available 15,000 were sold in its first week of availability, easily making it the top seller last week. Meanwhile, the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor commemorative products continued to have strong pre-sales this past week. The proof silver dollar was the second top seller while the proof half dollar was third and the uncirculated half dollar was fourth. The uncirculated silver dollar was the sixth top seller overall last week.
Perhaps the biggest surprise in this week’s report was the reported sales of the 2021 Morgan and Peace dollar coins. Four of the six coins released last year in the series were in the top ten this past week. The Mint indicated that the 2021-D Morgan, 2021-S Morgan, 2021 (P) Morgan and the 2021 (P) Peace Dollars all had sales in the past week. It is possible that these are correction figures form the Mint as it did internal audits but equally, those audits could have found several hundred of these coins which they made available on the site.
Rounding out the top ten in sales for the United States Mint last week was the 2021 Proof Set which added another 686 sets sold to its total sales.
