Sally Ride American Women Quarter Bags & Rolls Sell Out Almost Immediately

The United States Mint has indicated on its Production Schedule that all of the Sally Ride American Women Quarter products have sold out. The 100-coin bags and two or three roll sets were all released yesterday at Noon Eastern and sold out within minutes. It highlights the popularity of this new quarter program from the Mint.

As reported yesterday here on USCoinNews, there is no mintage limit on the quarters as they are considered circulation coins. However, the Mint limited the production of the 100-coin bags and roll sets that were offered. For the bags, only 1,860 of each were available. For the 2-Roll and 3-Roll sets, production was limited to 5,940 and 7,620 respectively. The Dr. Sally Ride American Women Quarter is the second of five in the series scheduled for release this year.

Dr. Sally Ride is featured on the second coin released in this program.

The first American woman to soar into space, Ride captured the Nation’s imagination as a symbol of the ability of women to shatter barriers. Her historic flight represented just one aspect of a remarkable and multi-faceted life.

She was also an athlete, physicist, science writer, and inspirational leader in science education. When she blasted off aboard space shuttle Challenger on June 18, 1983, Ride became the first American woman in space.

The reverse (tails) design depicts Ride next to a window on the space shuttle, inspired by her quote, “But when I wasn’t working, I was usually at a window looking down at Earth.” It was designed by United States Mint Artistic Infusion Program Designer Elana Hagler and sculpted by United States Mint Medallic Artist Phebe Hemphill.

Here are the list of products and links to them on the Mint’s site, all of which indicate that they are not available and gives visitors the option to use the “Remind Me” feature should they come back in stock. Given the limited number of these products, it is unlikely they will be offered again.

  • 100-Coin Bag Philadelphia – $40.00
  • 100-Coin Bag Denver – $40.00
  • 40-Coin Each 2-Roll Set (P & D) – $36.00
  • 40-Coin Each 3-Roll Set (P, D, & S) – $54.00

To assure that you get the next release in the American Women Quarter Program, you can sign up for the Enrollment Program for the products. The silver and standard proof sets for the program remain available but the 2-roll, 3-roll and 100-coin bag enrollments are already sold out. That means if you want to get these in the future, you will need to be on the Mint’s site on release day.
