Franklin Pierce (November 23, 1804 – October 8, 1869) was the 14th president of the United States serving from 1853 to 1857. He was a northern Democrat who believed that the abolitionist movement was a fundamental threat to the unity of the nation. He alienated anti-slavery groups by signing the Kansas–Nebraska Act and enforcing the Fugitive Slave Act, and conflict between North and South persisted until southern states seceded and the American Civil War began in 1861.Wikipedia
The Obverse of the Medal will feature a profile image of President Pierce
The Reverse of the medal will depicts a farmer, leaning upon a plow, and conversing with an Indian Chief, an American flag in the background, and above it is inscribed “LABOR,” “VIRTUE,” and “HONOR.” This is the second time this Reverse has been used, following the Millard Fillmore medal released last month.
As has been the case with previous releases, the Franklin Pierce Presidential Silver Medal will have no production limit nor will it have a household purchase limit. It should remain available on the Mint’s site for the next several years.
The United States Mint does offer an Enrollment Program for the series too. You can get more information here and sign up, assuring you get each medal in the series as they are released.
