The United States Mint has released its Circulating Coin Production Report for July 2023, showing that 1.139 billion coins were produced for circulation across the nation’s Mint facilities. Production dropped month-over-month from the June report, with all circulating coinage seeing a drop other than the Kennedy Half Dollar.
For July 2023, the Mint reported that it minted 457.6 million Lincoln Cents for circulation. This is a decrease of 7.29% from June. Of the Cents minted, 228.8 million were produced equally across both the Denver and Philadelphia Mint facilities, the primary locations for circulating coinage production for the Mint. For the year, the Mint has now produced 3.273 billion Lincoln Cents for circulation.
The Jefferson Nickel saw a decrease of 6.85% in production last month, with total production hitting 146.88 million Nickels. Of that production total, 73.68 million were minted in Denver, with the remaining 73.2 million produced in Philadelphia. For 2023, the Mint has now produced 1.064 billion Jefferson Nickels for circulation.
Turning to the Roosevelt Dime, according to the Mint’s report, 277 million were produced in July 2023. Of that, 134 million were produced in Denver and 143.02 million in Philadelphia. Percentage-wise, the Roosevelt Dime saw the largest month-over-month drop in production, decreasing by 20.74%. For the year, the Mint has minted 2.268 billion Dimes.
The total production of the Washington Quarter last month was 254.6 million coins. 125.4 million were minted in Denver and 129.2 million in Philadelphia. The Mint’s report does not break down the type of Quarters it produced. As readers know, four different Reverse designs are circulating this year, thanks to the American Women Quarter series. A fifth will enter circulation later this year. The production total represents a 14.1% decrease in production when compared to June. Total Washington Quarter production for the year is now at 1.924 billion coins.
The Kennedy Half Dollar was the only coin with a month-over-month circulation increase from June. 3.2 million Half Dollars were minted last month, all in Philadelphia. There were no Native American Dollars or Presidential Dollars minted last month.
For 2023, the United States Mint has now minted 8,547,140,000 coins for circulation. This is down slightly from the 8,738,960,000 coins the Mint had produced through July 2022, a decrease of 2.2%. At its current production pace, the Mint will nearly 14 billion coins in 2023.
