Since its introduction in 1938, the Jefferson Nickel has remained virtually unchanged for much of its 86-year history. The two notable exceptions were the 35% silver War Time compositions that were minted from 1942-1945 (you can read about those in this article) and the Westward Journey Series in 2004 and 2005. From 2006 onward, the Jefferson Nickel was redesigned with an updated Obverse.
