For those who are regular visitors to the site, you’ve noticed it has been quiet. My last regular post was January 16th. I was tired. I was burned out. I needed a break.
As you know, USCoinNews is my “side hustle”. By day, I am in Corporate Development, focusing on strategic parterships for my company. I love what I do. Equally, I love USCoinNews. It is a part of my creative outlet of being a better, more rounded person. But it had become cumbersome to deal with. My passion for it was dropping and I knew that I needed to put it down for a little while.
So I did.
I made the decision at the end of January to call time and take a break. I didn’t know how long the break would last. It could have been forever, or it could have been for a couple of weeks. As I told Donn Pearlman, who emailed to check and make sure I was doing okay, I wasn’t sure when or if I could be writing again on the site. To appreciate the need for a break, you have to have the full context.
I’ve been writing (or blogging) for over 25 years. I started in 1999, back when very few people were doing it, writing about mobile technology. For 25 years, almost without fail, I’ve written for either a site I own, or a friends. Sure there have been breaks for vacations and around the holidays in December, but fundamentally, I’ve been writing for decades on a regular basis. The excitement and energy I had for it though, was dropping – and fast. So I made the decision to stop for a while. I wanted to see if I missed it. I wanted to see if I had the desire to do it still.
Don’t get me wrong. I still love Numismatics and collecting. That did not waiver during this little break. But the willingness to spend the time to write about the hobby had certainly begun to shallow.
It turns out, all I needed was a two month break.
This week I began doing various updates to the site, collecting story ideas, and preparing for new articles this coming week. I’m excited about writing, for the first time in probably six months. I’m looking forward to getting new content out and getting your feedback and comments.
So for you who have been checking the site regularly, who have been messaging me, or emailing, thanks. I’m just fine.
Sometimes, you just need a break.
I took it, and I the site, are the better for it.
