The United States Mint has released images of the upcoming 2019 American Liberty 24-karat gold coin. The coin, set for release on August 15, 2019, has a stunning look for this year, with a flowing hair representation of Liberty on the Obverse and an eagle in flight on the Reverse.
The 24-karat coin has a face value of $100 and is a one ounce coin made of .9999 percent pure gold.
Like other bullion coins from the United States Mint, this year’s American Liberty coin is minted at the West Point Mint facility in New York. It will carry the W mint mark which will be found just below the 2019 date on the Obverse. The Reverse will have the $100 dollar value indicated as well as the purity of the gold use in the minting of the coin.
Right now it is unclear what the price will be as it will be a spot price of gold at the time of release plus a mint fee. Currently the 2017 American Liberty is still available for $1840 directly from the Mint.
Like the 2017 coin, it is expected that this year’s coin will have a mintage limit of 100,000 and likely will start out with a household limit purchase. As a general rule, the American Liberty coins are not the Mint’s top seller but are more of an investment purchase by collectors, similar to that of the American Buffalo bullion coin which is also offered by the Mint.
On a personal note, I’m a big fan of this new-for-2019 design. I find the Obverse striking and the Reverse simply stunning. What are your thoughts? Leave a comment below and tell me what you think and if you plan on picking one up in August when they go on sale.
Why us mint not release a titanium coin
Minting titanium is extremely difficult as the dies have to be incredibly strong. Likely due to cost on why they haven’t done it
