The United States Mint has released its weekly sales report for the 7-day period ending October 18, 2020. As expected, the new American Eagle Silver Proof coin had a strong week of initial sales while annual sets from the Mint continued their domination of the top ten selling products list as they have done throughout much of 2020.
The 2020-S American Eagle silver 1-Ounce Proof bullion coin was introduced on Tuesday of last week and despite not having a full seven days of sales for this report, easily took the top selling product position for the week. 199,997 of the 1-ounce coins were sold last week, effectively selling them out. The Mint is only making 200,000 of the coins available and as of this post, the coin shows as being unavailable on the Mint’s site. The high demand for this bullion coin was expected given it is the last San Francisco Proof of the current design of the American Eagle. A new Reverse for the coin is coming next year.
The second top selling product for the Mint last week was the 2020 Proof Set. Another 6,733 of the sets were sold, bringing its total sales for the year to 384,742. It was followed closely by the 2020 Silver Proof Set, which had 5,587 sets sold last week. For the year, the Silver Proof Set has now sold 289,020 sets.
The fourth top seller was the 2020-W American Eagle silver Uncirculated 1-ounce coin. 4,994 of these were sold last week, pushing the total sales to just over 150,000 for the year (150,818). While sales for the 2020-W American Eagle have remained strong, the rise in number this week are likely an “afterglow” effect from the 2020-S. It is not uncommon to see this happen, particularly with bullion products.
The fifth top seller for the week was the recently released 2020 American Innovation Dollar Proof Set. This was its second week of availability and 2,470 of the sets were sold. That puts the total sales to 49,016.
