The United States Mint has released its weekly numismatic product sales report for the week ending August 8, 2021. The report covers the previous seven days in numismatic product sales by the Mint and is separate from the bullion sales report. The report shows that the Mint sold an impressive 393,667 products last week, nearly all of that total found in the Morgan Dollar releases from last week.
For the year, the United States Mint has now sold 9,147,812 numismatic products.
Indeed, the 2021-D and 2021-S Morgan Dollars were at a virtual tie for the top spot in this week’s sales report. The Denver mint marked coin sold 174,956 coins while the San Francisco coin was just behind it at 174,930. For each of these coins, only 175,000 were available and the Mint shows both coins as unavailable. As is often the case with high demand products, the Mint is likely doing some reconciling behind the scenes to make sure those who order the coins get them – and in the order they were ordered.
Interestingly, the third top seller this week was for a coin that is not released for another two days. The 2021-S American Eagle Type-2 Silver Proof goes on sale August 12th but it already made the top ten list. 13,986 of these coins show as being sold, likely those who are part of the Enrollment Program for the coin. Meanwhile, another new release last week made into the fourth top seller position – the John Tyler Presidential Silver Medal. The final Presidential Medal to be released in 2021 saw robust sales of 12,667 medals in its first few days of availability. That sales total has already made it the highest selling medal in the series released this year.
Rounding out the top five in sales was the 2021-W American Eagle 1/10th Ounce Two-Coin Set, another special set released last week by the Mint. 4,942 of the 5,000 sets available are indicated as having been sold. However, the Mint shows them as unavailable on its website, suggesting it is doing more reconciliation of sales figures.
Here then is the complete list of the top ten selling products for the Mint last week. Note that all of these coins and medals in the top ten are 2021 releases.
