The United States Mint has released the first image of the upcoming 2022 American Eagle Platinum Proof coin. The coin is the second in the series honoring the freedoms provided by the First Amendment of the Constitution. This year, the coin highlights the freedom of speech granted to Americans.
The Eagle platinum proof is a 99.95% pure platinum coin that will be available directly from the Mint starting March 3rd. There will only be 15,000 of the coins produced. Pricing has not been established yet and will be available on release day.
For those interested, the first coin in the First Amendment series is still available on the Mint’s site.
The obverse design depicts a branch from a juvenile oak tree framed with the inscription “WITH FREEDOM OF SPEECH LIBERTY BLOSSOMS.” Additional inscriptions are “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “2022.” It was designed by Artistic Infusion Program Designer Donna Weaver and sculpted by United States Mint Chief Engraver Joseph Menna.
The First Amendment series of platinum American Eagles will continue through 2025 with each year honoring one of the five freedoms granted to Americans in the Constitution of the United States.
- 2021 – Freedom of Religion
- 2022 – Freedom of Speech
- 2023 – Freedom of the Press
