The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report for American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins. This summary report provides sales details through Sunday, May 29, 2022. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. During the previous week, the Mint reported sales of 63,000 bullion coins. This is down significantly from the over half-million coin sales in last week’s report. Indeed, only three of the seven bullion products that the Mint offers to Authorized Purchasers reported sales in the past week.
The top selling bullion product for the week ending May 29, 2022 was the one-ounce gold American Eagle. The Mint reported 44,500 of these were sold to Authorized Purchasers, making it the clear top seller for the week. The additional sales puts the one-ounce gold Eagle’s sales at 568,000 coins for this year. when compared to the end of May 2021, sales of the coin are up by 139,000 this year. The only other American Eagle product that had reported sales by the Mint was the 1/2-ounce gold American Eagle. The largest fractional Eagle had reported sales of 3,000 coins, putting its total sales for 2022 at 58,000. This total is well over the 31,000 that the 1/2-ounce Eagle had through May 2021.
The one-ounce silver American Eagle, 1/25th-ounce gold Eagle, 1/10th-ounce gold Eagle, and the one-ounce platinum Eagle had no reported sales for this past week.
Turning to the one-ounce gold American Buffalo, it continued to enjoy strong sales once again this week. Authorized Purchasers acquired 15,500 of the coins according to the Mint’s report, putting sales for the year at 234,000. That total puts 2022 sales to this point at some 68,000 coins higher than by the end of May 2021.
