After passing the United States Senate back in July, the Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act of 2019 has now passed in the United States House of Representatives. Production of the coin, assuming it gains the President’s signature, will happen in 2021. That will be the 35th anniversary of the Shuttle Challenge explosion. Negro Leagues Commemorative Legislation Introduced in Congress

A bi-partisan bill was introduced in Congress this week that would authorize the creation of a commemorative coin to honor the Negro Leagues of baseball. The bill would call for the creation of the commemorative in 2020 in celebration of the centennial of the leagues being formed in 1920. After the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) meeting yesterday in Washington, D.C., we now get our first look at the proposed Obverses and Reverses of the commemorative coins. The $5 gold coins, silver dollars and clad half dollars will be made in recognition of the 60th anniversary of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. The legislation for a commemorative coin honoring Christa McAuliffe took a positive step forward this week. The Christa McAuliffe Commemorative Coin Act of 2019, Senate Bill 239, was passed on Tuesday, July 9th. The bill was introduced on January 28, 2019 with 83 of the 100 senators as cosponsors.
