The United States Mint has announced that the 5-ounce silver coin commemorating the American Samoa America the Beautiful Quarter will go on sale starting February 6, 2020. The 99.9% pure silver bullion coin will be priced at $178.25 and you will be to buy it directly from the Mint’s website.
For those that are new to collecting, these 5-ounce coins are identical to the America the Beautiful Quarter it represents on the Obverse (Heads) and Reverse (Tails). Other than the obvious size difference, these silver coins have a smooth edge versus the reed edge of the Quarter itself.
When the coin is shipped to you, it will come in a presentation case along with a Certificate of Authenticity from the United States Mint.
The reverse (tails) design depicts a Samoan fruit bat mother hanging in a tree with her pup. The image evokes the remarkable care and energy this species puts into its offspring. The design is intended to promote awareness to the species’ threatened status resulting from habitat loss and commercial hunting. The National Park of American Samoa is the only park in the U.S. national park system the Samoan fruit bat calls home. Inscriptions are “NATIONAL PARK,” “AMERICAN SAMOA,” “2020,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”United States Mint
Mintage of these silver coins are limited to 20,000. There is, however, no household limit. That means when they do go on sale, you can purchase as many of them as you desire.
Sales will begin on February 6, 2020 at Noon Eastern, 9:00 AM Pacific.
