The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report through to today, May 3, 2021. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. This week’s report was the first update to the Bullion Sales report in two weeks. Overall, the report shows that the Mint sold 75,900 bullion coins through to May 24, 2021.
Surprisingly, the Mint reported not sales of the silver American Eagle bullion coin. With the Type-2 Reverse design of the coin coming in short order, it is likely that the Mint is producing the bullion coins and are not offering any for sale yet. The bullion variant of the silver and gold Eagles will likely be the first ones offered with collectors and investors likely being able to get them weeks before the Proof version of the coins are offered in July. That said, 18,500 of the gold one-ounce American Eagle were sold last week by the United States Mint.
The platinum American Eagle, which will not be revised this year, was the only other Eagle that registered sales this past week. 26,400 of the one-ounce coins were sold to Authorized Purchasers, pushing its total sales for 2021 to 61,400 coins. Meanwhile, the American Buffalo gold bullion coin was the top bullion seller for the Mint last week. 31,000 coins were sold in the week, pushing its total sales to 153,000 coins.
