The United States Mint has issued a revised schedule for the release of the upcoming American Eagle Type-2 products as well as the Morgan and Peace Dollars. Sales were expected to begin of the American Eagle’s on July 1 but that has now been delayed to July 20 for the silver Eagle. For the gold Eagle, those dates move from July 8 to July 29. New Household Limits have also been put into place which are outlined below.
The release of the Morgan and Peace dollars have also been delayed. Pre-Orders for the San Francisco and Denver Morgan is now set to occur between August 3-17 while the Philadelphia Morgan and Peace Dollar will now have their pre-order windows from August 10-24, 2021.
The delay is all in response to the disastrous situation with the first Morgan Dollar release last month which crushed the Mint’s site. In a postmortem, the Mint determined that a high amount of traffic to the site was from BOTs, non-human transactions. The Mint is in the process of putting mitigation plans in place to stem the BOT traffic with the Mint not wanting to open up sales again until theses plans are completed.
In a further effort to help stave off BOT traffic, the Mint has also put in now Household Limits on the American Eagle Silver and Gold coins, Morgan Dollars, and Peace Dollars. This should help in giving more buyers an opportunity to get the coins on their release dates. These new limits are dramatically down from the previous limits set by the Mint on the Morgan and Peace Dollars

- 2021-S American Eagle Silver Proof – 3
- 2021-S Morgan Dollar – 3

- 2021-P Morgan Dollar – 3
- 2021 Peace Dollar – 3
