The United States Mint has updated its daily bullion sales report for American Eagle and American Buffalo bullion coins. This summary report provides sales details through Sunday, April 3, 2022. The bullion sales report reflects bullion coins that the Mint sold to Authorized Purchasers for the previous week and is different than the weekly numismatic product report. During the previous week, the Mint reported sales of just 38,000 bullion coins. This is a down from the nearly 750,000 that the Mint reported last week. According to the Mint’s report, five of the seven bullion products offered by the Mint to Authorized Purchasers had sales registered.
Unusually, the silver one-ounce American Eagle had no reported sales for the week, ending the first quarter of 2022 with 7.5815 million coins sold. This is down significantly from the sales pace of 2021, which topped 11 million by this time. Its gold sister coin, the one-ounce gold American Eagle was the top seller this past week with some 19,000 coins sold to Authorized Purchasers. That puts its total sales for the first quarter of the year at 350,000 which is just slightly behind the 370,000 that had been sold in the first quarter of last year.
In this week’s report, all of the fractional gold American Eagle bullion coins had reported sales. The 1/2-ounce coin had 1,000 units in sales while the 1/25th-ounce and 1/10th-ounce had 2,000 and 5,000 coins sold respectively.
The one-ounce American Eagle platinum coin had no reported sales last week.
Finally, turning to the one-ounce gold American Buffalo coin, the Mint reported that 11,000 of them were sold last week, putting its sales total for the year at 154,500 coins. This is head of the sales total for the first quarter of 2021 which saw sales of 111,000 Buffalo gold coins.
