Site News – Three Years and Counting…

On Sunday, May 1st, USCoinNews marked its third year of being online. The past three years have been interesting and challenging but have also been some of the most rewarding for me. I cannot wait to see what the next three years have in store.

When I started this site, my focus was on the “normal” collector. That is, someone who is working with a budget, big or small, and trying to get the most out of this hobby we all share. That focus remains the same today as it was back on May 1, 2019. I still focus on the how to’s of the hobby as well as giving tips, information and news that the average collector can use. I rarely post on ultra rare coins or auctions and that’s by design. I know, based on emails back to me, that some of you don’t particularly like that but I’m okay with it. There are plenty of other sites out there that can provide you the latest-and-greatest auction news. It just won’t be here.

The unexpected side effect of the site has been the friendships created. Some of you I correspond with on a nearly weekly basis. Some of you I’ve met in person or texted with personally. I did not expect that when I created this site three years ago. I assumed, wrongfully, that it would be like other sites I’ve own and written for in the past. I’m delighted I’ve been wrong in this regard. As a site owner, those interactions have made it truly rewarding.

In the past, I have been transparent about the sites traffic and finances and I see no reason to change that for this post. The site financially remains at break-even or at a slight loss every month. In the 36 months the site has been around, it’s made a profit 3 months. The good news is that some of you have joined Patron and support the site with a monthly donation. Thank you. Once I get to the point where the site is covering expenses via Patron, the ads on the site will go away. That is ultimately my goal but for now, the ads will remain as they are the primary income source to cover expenses.

Traffic-wise, the site continues to grow year-over-year. A total of 2.28 million people have visited in the past three years and this year’s pace looks set to surpass last year, the best year every, sometime in July or August. There are now 1,604 posts on the site not including this one and all of them have at least 25 reads or more. That may not sound like much but as a long time site owner, those metrics are significant. It means the site has released a level of self sustainability in the eyes of search engines. That’s kinda a big deal.

Ultimately, it is you I have to thank for the success of this site. Thank you for the visits, for the comments, for the feedback, etc. Your support has made running USCoinNews far more of an honor in my life than I ever expected.

Back to regularly scheduled programing for now. Thanks again everyone!
