CCAC Releases Design Candidate Images of 2024 American Liberty Gold Coin and Silver Medal

Before the Citizens Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) meeting today, the design images of the 2024 American Liberty gold coin and silver medal have been released. The design, which will be struck in high relief, is modeled after the Flowing Hair Liberty Dollar. That coin, one of the earliest coins in United States history, was minted from 1794-1795.

The Flowing Hair dollar was the United States federal government’s first dollar coin. The coin was minted in 1794 and 1795; its size and weight were based on the Spanish dollar, which was popular in trade throughout the Americas. It was designed by engraver Robert Scot in 1794. You can read more on the history of the Flowing Hair Dollar here.

The obverse and reverse of the 2024 American Liberty coin and medal will feature the Flowing Hair design, stunningly similar to the original release.

The American Liberty gold coin was introduced in 2015 and has traditionally been released every two years (2015, 2017, 2019, 2021, 2023). However, based on the information from the Mint, the Flowing Hair design will be used for the next two years.

The final design of the 2024 American Liberty gold coin and silver medal will likely be determined in the first quarter of 2024. In reviewing the 2024 Product Release Schedule from the Mint, the American Liberty products are currently not listed. Traditionally, this gold coin and silver medal are released in the Summer.
