The United States Mint has updated its daily Bullion Sales Report through this morning, March 8, 2021. For the previous week, the Mint sold 829,000 bullion coins to Authorized Purchasers, with the vast majority of those sales being the American Eagle silver bullion one ounce coin.
Of the 829,000 coins sold, the silver American Eagle accounted for 761,000 of those sales. That pushed the total sales of the coin to 8.72 million coins for the year. For comparison, in 2020 through the entire month of March, the Mint had sold 9.978 million silver American Eagles. With just one week into March this year, it would seem almost certain that the Mint will surpass its total sales for 2020 for the third consecutive month to start 2021.
The American Eagle gold one ounce coin saw an additional 6,500 coins sold last week, putting its total sales for the year at 318,500 coins. Sales of the gold one ounce Eagle have already far exceed sales to this point last year. Additionally, 20,000 of the 1/25th ounce gold American Eagles were sold in the past week. That puts its total sales for 2021 at 56,000 coins.
For the first time this year, the Mint reported sales of the American Eagle platinum one ounce coin. 30,500 of the coins were sold in the past week. Rounding out this week’s report is the American Buffalo gold one ounce coin. Another 11,000 of these coins were sold to Authorized Purchasers in the past week. That puts its sales at 88,500 coins to this point in 2021.
